About the
Institute :- |
|
|
Dr.
Babasaheb Ambedkar National Institute of Social
Sciences, dedicated to the memory and ideals of
Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R.
Ambedkar, was established by the Government
of Madhya Pradesh at his birth place, Mhow on
14th November, 1988, to provide facilities for
specialized teaching courses, research,
extension, sensitization and training in Social
Sciences with a focus on the problems of weaker
sections including scheduled castes, scheduled
tribes, other backward classes, minorities,
women and children. |

Status & Management
:- |
|
The
Institute is an autonomous and registered body
under the Madhya Pradesh Society's Registration
Act, 1973 (44). Primarily, the Government of
Madhya Pradesh, Department of Scheduled Castes
Welfare funds the Institute and Indian Council
of Social Research, New Delhi and other Central
and State agencies also provide funds to the
Institute in the form of non-recurring grants.
The Institute is non-vocational and the working
hours are 10.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. The library of
the Institute remains open daily from 9.00 a.m.
to 9.00 p.m. and also remains open on Sunday and
on all holidays. |

The
Governing Body is the Supreme Body of the
Institute in framing the policy for its
governance and has been vested with overall
executive and financial powers. His Excellency,
the Governor of Madhya Pradesh is the Chairman
and Hon'ble Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh is
the Pro-Chairman of the Governing Body. Hon'ble
Minister for the Scheduled Castes Welfare,
Government of M.P. is the Vice-Chairperson.

Eminent
Educationists, Social Scientists, Social
Workers, Ministers of Scheduled Castes Welfare,
Scheduled Tribes Welfare, Other Backward Classes
Welfare, Minorities, Women and Child, and senior
civil servants of the State including the Chief
Secretary and Principal Secretaries of
concerning departments are members of the
Governing Body. |

Management
Committee of the Institute is a sub-set of the
Governing Body and is chaired by the Hon'ble
Minister for the Scheduled Castes Welfare,
Government of M.P. and implements the policies
and programmes as formulated/decided by the
Governing Body. Director General is the academic
and administrative head of the Institute and his
status is equal to a Vice-chancellor of a
university in Madhya Pradesh. |

Goals & Objectives
:- |
|
Based on
values of an egalitarian social order like
justice, liberty, equality, fraternity, and
secularism as envisaged in the Constitution of
India and guided by the views, ideals, thoughts
and philosophy of Dr. B R. Ambedkar, the mandate
of the Institute is to work for the development
of the society in general and that of weaker
sections including the deprived and socially
discriminated sections in particular, through
its research, teaching, training, sensitization
and extension programs. |

The
specific objectives of the Institute as
envisaged and adopted in the Memorandum of
Association & Regulation of the Institute,
are as follows:
1) To take
all such other necessary action and to implement
such schemes and programs which relate to the
most underprivileged group.
(2) To
study the phenomena of socio-economic
inequality, disability and discrimination,
especially arising out of the caste system, in
their various aspects e.g. causation,
perpetuation and resistance to change.
(3) To
study various interventions, Government and
Non-Government, aimed at alleviation and
eradication of social disparities and injustice
and at development and empowerment of socially
disadvantaged groups, with special references to
Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other
Backward Classes, Women and Children.
(4) To
study the work of various thinkers and
practitioners, who have made significant
contributions in the area of development and
empowerment of socially disadvantaged groups
with special references to the thought and work
of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
(5) To
undertake extension works in the area of removal
of social disparities, and development and
empowerment of socially disadvantaged groups.
(6) To
sensitize and train persons in the formulation
and implementation of programs and interventions
aimed at removal of social disparities.
(7) To
conduct appropriate programs of education at the
post-graduate and higher levels, and of
research, in areas of social sciences relevant
to the fields mentioned in clauses (i) to (v)
above.
(8) To act
as documentation-cum-references center and a
clearinghouse of information, in the areas
mentioned above.
(9) To
establish a networking relationship with other
institutions working in areas similar to those
of the Institute.
(10) To
disseminate the findings and results of the work
done by the Institute (by way of studies,
research, extension, training, education, etc.)
and other similar institutions.
(11) To
provide consultancy and advice to the Government
of Madhya Pradesh and other interested
organizations in the area of development and
empowerment of socially disadvantaged groups.
